Use this fun activity to help your family explore God's Direction in our lives.
Gather your family, your coin and Bible, and pile into the car! (Note: This FunFaith moment can also be a walking adventure if you'd prefer not to drive.) Explain to your kids that you'll be going on a "coin toss" journey. Every time you flip "heads," you'll take a right turn on your journey; every time you flip "tails," you'll turn left.
Get going! Have kids take turns flipping the coin as you go. Remember, if the result of the coin toss is "heads," you'll turn right at the next intersection. "Tails" means you'll turn to the left. After each turn, have someone flip the coin again to determine which way you'll go at the next intersection. (Flipping in advance gives the driver time to get into the correct lane for turning.) Be aware that this could mean driving around the block a few times before you finally get out of your neighborhood!
Drive for half an hour or so and see where you end up. If you're near a fast-food outlet, stop for soft drinks and ask the Discover questions there. If not, begin your Discovery discussion on the drive home.
Discuss these questions together:
• What was fun about this trip? What was frustrating?
• What would it be like to make all decisions in life by flipping a coin? Would you be able to plan for the future?
Read Jeremiah 29:11 and discuss these questions:
• How does it feel to know God has good plans for your future? Explain.
• How can knowing that God is in control of your future help you in the present, in your daily life?
• What good things do you hope God has planned for your future?
Give each family member the opportunity to flip the coin once more. Have those getting "heads" thank God for one good thing God has already done for your family. Have those getting "tails" ask God for guidance as your family moves into the future together.
