Heroes

by Dr. Harold J. Sala

Promise Press / Barbour Publishing

Did you know that famed missionary, Dr. David Livingstone died with his Bible open to Matthew 28?

Or that Bob Pierce was spurred to start the relief organization, World Vision, when a nun deposited an undernourished child in his arms and asked, “What are you going to do about it?”

Or that former Dallas Cowboys’ coach, Tom Landry, went to church most of his life before finally accepting Christ as an adult?

Well, you would know those things—and more—if you’d read the interesting new book from Harold Sala called, Heroes. Subtitled “People Who Made a Difference in Our World,” this book treats readers to over 90 short biographies of men and women who impacted their world for Christ.

The people profiled here come from all walks of life and from all ages, including folks like “Mrs. Noah,” Mother Teresa, C.S. Lewis, Pat Williams, Galileo, J.C. Penney, Hezekiah, Anne Frank and more. Each bio blast is brief—able to be read in one sitting—and written in Sala’s warm, personal style. Along with each story, Sala has highlighted character qualities displayed in each hero, and added related Scripture references and application questions for further study. Those elements make this an excellent resource for daily devotions or small group discussion.

Filled with interesting tidbits and entertaining stories about real people, Heroes is truly an enjoyable read. But perhaps the best part of this book is that after reading it, you too may be inspired to become a person who makes a difference.
