FOXTROT: Encyclopedias Brown and White by Bill Amend (Andrews McMeel Publishers)

I liked this book a lot. Encyclopedias Brown and White was very funny--it made me laugh out loud!

This whole book is a collection of comic strips that originally ran in the daily newspaper. It's about the Fox family, and their silly adventures.

Jason (the youngest son who is ten years old) is into action like superheroes and Star Wars. Jason has a friend named Marcus who likes the same things as Jason does.

Jason’s 14-year-old sister, Paige, hates her brother's pet iguana and whenever he shoots a dart at her she gets mad and beats him up (sort of).

They have a 16-year-old brother, Peter, who is really into sports--but who is also terrible at anything athletic. They all have a dad (Roger) who likes to play chess and golf (but he really stinks at both!). Their mom, Andy, seems like the only sane person in the family--except she likes to make things out of tofu and other really gross stuff like that.

This collection had many funny parts in it, like when Marcus and Jason are trying to find a friend’s journal from a summer camp. They find some ants instead and get distracted because the ants start frying under their magnifying glasses. (Admit it, you did that when you were a kid too.)

Also, it was funny when Paige and Jason take Ho-Hos and unroll them and add chocolate syrup and sugar then roll them back up and eat them. (Sounds delicious to me!) I also laughed when Roger tried to make homemade wine and turned out to be a disaster and stunk up the whole house.

Families who love to laugh and who enjoy the Sunday comics will like this book. It's entertaining for both kids and grownups, so don't be afraid to share it with your family this week.
