OH SNAP (EP)

Philmont / Forefront Records / EMI

Fan Appeal: Teens and up

Genre: Pop / Punk

This new upbeat band is one that is for sure worth a listen.

Philmont has a sound that is definitely one that has been lacking in the Christian music industry for a while. Their pop/punk style is one that is refreshing compared to all of the new pop/punk acts that are recycling all the same old stuff. It was unexpectedly fun to listen to this EP.

One of the best songs here is “The Difference.” This song is an upbeat anthem about how much of a difference God makes in our lives, and it is impossible to live the same as once we have Him in our lives. “Another Name” is also a good song. It is slower with more acoustic and piano type music, and it is done well unlike many bands that make a slow song just to have a slow song.

The downside is that this is only an EP, and consists of 5 songs. There are also some spots in which the lyrics are weak or predictable (or even a little bit cheesy) and could’ve been reworded to sound better. But they do always seem to at least try to show God’s love in the lyrics.

Overall, this band is a fresh voice in the music scene, and one to keep an eye on.

FAMILYFANS RATING: B+
