SUPER COLOSSAL

Joe Satriani / Epic Records

Fan Appeal: All Ages

Genre: Instrumental / Rock

Joe Satriani's Super Colossal has "GREAT" written all over it! With superb guitar riffs and no low points, this album is simply, well Super Colossal--just like it says in the title. There is almost no way to describe Joe Satriani’s unique brand of rock. A veteran solo guitarist, he has brought his trademark groove back to the marketplace with this latest project.

The best way I can think of to describe this CD is that it is like a bunch of old 1980s "glam rock" songs with no words and just a lot, lot, lot of guitar soloing. Aaaweesome!

Joe's title song (and the first track on the CD), gives the listener just a taste of how good this record really is, flowing through a river of electric string sounds and making guitar rats (yes I am one too) smile at the expertise and precision JoeSatch brings to the speakers. Also, "Redshift Riders" is a kick. It's almost like an anthem for basically anything.

Although there are no words on this CD, there are great feelings in all of the songs whether it be happiness, ecstasy, sadness, or any other emotion, it shows through on every song.

There is almost nothing bad to say about this record. Some might think that a few of the songs are a little too slow and not as upbeat as others. Also I guess some of the songs could start to sound alike to a casual listener. But really, the biggest weakness here is simply that the CD ends too soon.

Super Colossal showcases Joe Satriani's amazing talent on guitar, and is well worth owning because, most likely, almost everyone from children to adults will enjoy the instrumental rock jams on this innovative CD.

FAMILYFANS RATING: A

If members of your family like this CD, then you may want to try…

Joe Satriani: Surfing With The Alien, An Anthology, Strange Beautiful Music, or any of his many others. Rock. Great guitar soloing and good old rock ‘n’ roll.

• Phil Keaggy: Jammed! Rock. A Christian music legend brings his own rock-n-roll style to another instrumental CD.
