Deyo has stepped away from the comfort of being the lead singer for best-selling
artist Sonicflood, but his solo debut, Saturate reveals he hasn’t left
his roots as one of the premiere leaders of modern worship.
Highlights
here are easy to find. “Let It Flow” is vintage Deyo, with a rock-tinged,
rhythmic guitar lead and lyrics that cry with passion for God’s Spirit.
tobyMac on background vocals for
the blazing remake of “More Love, More Power” is also arresting. A
surprising favorite is the orchestral-rock cover of the classic hymn, “I’d
Rather Have Jesus.”
The
album includes several dialogue interludes—prayers, sermonettes, and the like.
Although well intentioned, these quickly become the CD’s only weakness,
tending to interrupt the praise flow more than they facilitate it. Still, the
music and passion of the songs more than make up for that minor detail.
Easily
recommended for young and old fans of modern worship.
