WE SING. WE DANCE. WE STEAL THINGS.

Jason Mraz / Atlantic Records

Fan Appeal: Teens to Adults

Genre: Acoustic Rock/Pop

This album is one that is very catchy and good for almost any setting.

The brilliance of this CD is its combination of acoustic pop and a “big band” sound. This fusion of Jack Johnson and Glen Millar creates a wonderful new stylistic approach to pop music. One of the songs this is best illustrated in is “Butterfly.” This song has a slower beginning with some doodling from guitars and horns, but at the chorus, the full band comes in with a full blown horn section. Another great song is “Lucky.” This is a song about how lucky he is to be with the girl he loves. One more song that is very interesting is “Love for a Child.” This is a song exploring the life of a child with divorced parents and the experiences of growing up in a broken household.

The biggest downside of this CD that I have found is that some of the lyrics are inappropriate. Mostly this is because of a few swear words spread throughout the album, but there are also some sex related lyrics that aren’t really appropriate. Also, some of those lyrics are pretty lame, and seem to deserve an eye roll every time they come around.

Even so, this is a solid album that is for sure worth checking out.
