Go Fish / inpop Records OK, admit it. Deep down
inside you’re jealous that all those 14-year-old girls have boy bands like
Plus One and the Backstreet Boys to unashamedly enjoy. Well, buck up all you
grownups out there, because there’s a new group around to satisfy that
boy-band jones of yours. (OK, so really, this group’s been around for five
years as an indie act, and even sold over 100,000 albums before this CD, but
what’s that among friends, right?) With their major-label
debut album, Infectious, Go Fish
delivers an adult contemporary/pop sound that draws heavily from their origins
as an a cappella group, and that’s awash in mid-tempo, radio friendly
melodies. Butterfly kisses-sweet songs like “That’s What Amazes Me” and
“You’re My Little Girl” remind of God’s awesome love with gentle
harmonies and sentimental lyrics. The title song goes the other direction, with
a touch of electric guitars and electronic flash reminiscent of Take 6 or the
aforementioned Backstreet Boys. Other highlights include the Avalon-esque “I
See You” and the lightly bluesy/disco, story-song, “What Mary Didn’t
Know.” Overall, Infectious
is a solid debut for fans of grownup pop. So have fun with it! --Mike Nappa ### |
