Glenn
Kaiser / Grrr Records Everybody
gets the blues, but nobody does blues/rock riffs like Glenn Kaiser, the
legendary frontman of “Jesus Music” pioneers, Rez Band, In Blues Heaven,
Kaiser has finally collected the best of his blues songs and put them all on one
phenomenal CD. The
premium song on this album is also its oldest: the 1978 melody, “The
Return.” Powered by Kaiser’s world-weary, rough-hewn vocals, this song alone
makes Blues Heaven worth its sticker price. In addition to Kaiser’s vocals,
the song boasts rock-ballad guitar stylings (reminiscent of a mellow Jimi
Hendrix) and plain, straightforward lyrics about Christ’s return. Other
angelic moments on this CD are easy to find. “Everybody Understands the
Blues” is a bouncy B.B. King-like melody sure to get toes tappin’. The rowdy
remake of the campfire classic, “My Jesus is All” is also fun—even if it
does remind you of restless nights at a junior high church retreat. And the
down-n-dirty “Souls for Hire”—with hot harmonica accents—is a treat. In all,
Kaiser provides over an hour’s worth of gritty guitars and vocals that are
perfect for fans of old-time rock-n-roll. So what’re you waiting for? Take a
trip to Blues Heaven today. You’ll be glad you did. --Mike Nappa ### |
