Fernando
Ortega / Myrrh Records When
Dove Award-winning inspirational artist, Fernando Ortega, was out on tour last
year, his thoughts often turned toward Home—to
both his place of residence and his new album of the same title. The result is a
radio-friendly CD filled with eleven examples of Ortega’s warmth and talent. The
first attention-grabber here is “This Good Day,” a lilting song of praise
Ortega recorded with a live band in the studio. “Old Girl” is also
memorable. This is a quiet, sobering song about homelessness that’s sung
softly over equally gentle acoustic stylings. Other intriguing melodies included
on Home are the peaceful, piano-and-voices-only arrangement of the
classic hymn, “Pass Me Not,” the prancing, upbeat “Virginia Rose,” and
“On the Line”—an eye-opening glimpse at the experience of many elderly
people. As
before, fans of Ortega’s inspirational style will certainly enjoy this new
trip Home. Look for this album to
appeal especially to folks in the 30- to 60-year-old age range. —Mike
