ROCKIN' IN THE FOREST WITH FARMER JASON

Farmer Jason (Jason Ringenberg) / Rhino Records

Fan Appeal: Preschool Children

Genre: Kiddie Rock

Rhino Entertainment has released “Rockin’ In The Forest With Farmer Jason” in conjunction with the reissue of Farmer Jason’s (of Jason and the Scorchers) “A Day At The Farm With Farmer Jason.”

You remember Jason and the Scorchers, right? He’s the alternative-country-cowpunk pioneer from the mid-80s. No? Well, no matter. Front-man Jason Ringenberg has apparently found a lucrative niche in the children’s market as evidenced by his live shows with sell-out crowds and Family Fun’s (Disney’s magazine) naming of his “A Day At The Farm With Farmer Jason” as “one of the top 5 kids’ CDs of 2003.”

Clearly aimed at the pre-K age children, the songs on this CD are both fun and somewhat educational. As a follow up to the successful 2003 CD, this project moves from the farm to the forest with a rockin’ musical journey from high-energy punk rock (“Punk Rock Skunk”) to a kind of spacey jazz feel. Along the way, children are introduced to nature with subtle lessons in ecology, fitness and even a little history.

Other titles like “Ode To A Toad,” “He’s A Moose On The Loose” and “Opossum In A Pocket” are fun for kids and parents alike and provide the opportunity to spend time together exploring music and nature at the same time.

If you have pre-K children, I recommend Farmer Jason’s CDs. There is nothing questionable and all the words and messages are direct and easy to understand. The infectious melodies really stick in your head, but that can be a good thing when it comes to the process of learning. Give them a try. I’m sure your young children will appreciate it.

FAMILYFANS RATING: B
