WAKE UP! WAKE UP!

Everyday Sunday / Inpop Records

Fan Appeal: Teens

Genre: Punk

Wake Up! Wake Up! is an interesting new album that takes a departure from what modern punk has become.

Everyday Sunday has grown in their musical abilities and creativity since their previous albums. The music has gotten better, and the lyrics are more insightful. Although there are some songs about girls and heartbreak, they are outnumbered by others that have deeper meanings. One of these is the title track “Wake Up! Wake Up!” This song is mainly saying we need to stop sleep-walking through life and wake up and start to live life and do something with ourselves. Another good song is the opener “Let’s Go Back.” It is also about how we need to make something of our lives and take action and have fun with life.

The punk sound and attitude of this album is really cool. It has a more mature sound and attitude than most of the punk that is coming out these days. This band has not been sucked in by the emo musical style that consumes the would-be punk acts these days. They also stay away from the feelings that “the world sucks and it would be better if I died” attitude that has taken over so many modern bands, both Christian and mainstream.

Even though there is maturity, there are still corny love songs to be had in this album. The song that portrays this most is “I'll Get Over It (Miss Elaineous).” It is about a breakup, and the singer is sad about it. Pretty much like every other breakup song. Another song like this is “Now You’re Gone.” Again, typical breakup song. I am sad, you are gone, please come back, dang it won’t work out. Something else that is a little bit of a downer is that a lot of the album starts to sound repetitive if you listen to it for a while. The music and vocals all start to blend in a similar way after several songs.

Still, I would recommend this album for anyone who enjoys punk, and is looking for something new. I would also highly recommend this to anyone who already enjoys Everyday Sunday, because it is better than their past works.
