The Darins

The Darins / Pamplin

Imagine a Point-of-Grace-meets-Donna-Summer type of union and you’ve got a pretty good picture of The Darins. Comprised of four sisters, this new group boasts POG-style vocal harmonies overlaid on bass and guitar licks that could’ve come straight from a 70s disco.

The first two songs on this self-titled CD especially merit that description—and are subsequently my favorites. “I Realize” is a fun-n-funky ode to Christ’s power to change lives. “All Along the Road” suffers from a growling introduction, but soon transitions into an enjoyable pop offering.

From there, The Darins take their cue more from Point of Grace than Clinton, which results in sugar-flavored melodies like “Only One” and “Believe.” Anthems like “Crosses and Crowns” are respectable too, but vanilla in their presentation—a disappointment given the promise evidenced on the rest of the album.

In all, The Darins is a light treat of funky pop, with promise of even better things to come from this foursome in the years ahead.

FAMILYFANS RATING: C+
