A Different Man

Clay Crosse / Reunion Records

Clay Crosse is back, and according to the title of his new CD he’s A Different Man. Thankfully, there’s enough of him that’s the same to keep this disc spinning for hours in your family’s CD player.

For instance, fans of Crosse’s trademark blue-eyed soul will find it in abundance in songs like “No Fear” and “End of the World.” “No Fear” is probably the most enjoyable cut on this CD, a rowdy pop/rock anthem of faith that’s powered by funky background vocals from Chris Willis and Tabitha Fair. “End of the World” is a tamer tune with a subtle African subtext that mixes well with Crosse’s voice.

For ballad lovers, Crosse has included melodies like the muted, thought-provoking “What Would You Do for a King?” and “More Like You”—a song of prayerful praise and commitment to God. Other winners on this album are the bluesy “Memphis” and the wintry testimonial, “Sinner’s Prayer.”

In all, Clay Crosse may be A Different Man, but he’s still making great Christian pop music. Recommend this one with confidence.
