Cheri
Keaggy / Sparrow After a
few forays into Christian pop music, Cheri Keaggy has finally returned to her
roots, releasing her fourth CD and making it an album of all praise songs.
Drawing from the fertile ground of her past as a worship leader in a local
church, Keaggy shines best by directing others straight to God. “We Have
Come to Worship Him,” originally recorded on her debut album, is re-recorded
here with pleasant results. Setting the tone for the rest of the CD, this happy,
upbeat tune set all sights on God alone. “We All Need Jesus” is also an
attention-getting call to worship, though it’s tamer here than when originally
recorded. Other highlights are the intimate ballad-like prayer, “Humble Me,”
and the emotion-filled remake of the classic communion song, “In Remembrance
of Me.” The only
real weakness here is that many of the songs are holdovers from previous
efforts. Knowing Keaggy’s obvious talent, the lack of freshness in this
worship album is disappointing. Still, the songs included here are good, and can
bring a much-needed moment of quiet praise into any day. For that we can all be
grateful. --Mike Nappa ### |
