BABY 81

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club / RCA

Fan Appeal: Teens and Young Adults

Genre: Rock

This album is a good rock album that has some great guitar parts, and a nice Brit rock sound.

The first song, “Took Out A Loan” is probably one of the best on the CD. It has some heavy guitar lines that are played nicely. It also has a great track of vocals. This song is about how the singer “Took out a loan” for almost everything in his life, but he will be fine if he can hold on to what he thinks he knows. Another song that stands out is the song “Weapon of Choice.” This song has a really cool acoustic guitar track, and a really cool effect on the drums at the beginning of the song. This song asks, “What is your weapon of choice” to be able to make yourself heard and known. One more song that is quite good is the song “American X.” Although there are some lyrics, it is a mostly instrumental piece that lasts over 9 minutes. It is kind of just a jam song that has plenty of cool musical parts.

Although the music is good, the guys in this band aren’t the greatest role models. For one thing, some of they lyrics throughout the album are not exactly wholesome. There are none that are terrible, but there are no songs glorifying God or other Christian topics. Also, on the cover art, and throughout the lyric book, smoking is glorified in several of the pictures. Not that smoking is evil, but it is for sure not something to go out and do just because your favorite band does it. Also, the music often sounds the same from song to song, and it can just get old if it is listened to several times through.

Overall, I would say that this album is good if you can handle some of the more adult topics.
