Aqualung / Columbia Records
Fan Appeal: Teens to Adults Genre: Alternative After listening to it the first time, I found Memory Man to be a great album that has some awesome music, and emotion filled lyrics. This CD is chock full of songs that could be hits, and deserve recognition. In my humble but accurate opinion, the last song, “Broken Bones” is the best song on this album. This melody starts with an effect that sounds like an old radio, then fades into a simple song with just a piano and the singer Matt Hales. It is a quiet love song that states that he just wants a little more time with the woman who he loves. In the end, it fades back out into the distant sound of an old radio. Very nice. One amazing thing about Aqualung is that it is almost all one guy. Matt Hales does almost all of the music and vocals, except for a few times when he has some other people add bits of their talent in. “Cinderella” is also a song that stands out. It is about how the singer feels sort of invaluable and useless. One last song that is really good is “Vapour Trail.” This song is a slower one that has some beautiful synthesizer work added with some soft melodies. It is about how all he needs is love to lead him home and give meaning to his life. There are only a few bad things about this album, and they are things that are probably to be expected from a non-Christian artust. One thing that may concern parents is that in “Cinderella,” there is a spot where the singer makes an implication of the swear word for poop. There are also a few subtle sexual themes throughout the CD. There is some repetition in this CD too, and to those that aren’t fans of the alternative genre might find it to be boring. But that is pretty much it though! In all, though, I enjoyed this CD very much and would strongly recommend buying this album for mature teens and adults. FAMILYFANS RATING: A- If members of your family like this CD, then you may want to try… -Wincing The Night Away, The Shins, Alternative. This band is a great alternative band, and they sound uncannily like Aqualung. -Tourist, Athlete, Alternative. A wonderfully put together album that is loaded with beautiful melodies and amazes the listener with even the simplest music. --TN ### |
