The Washington Projects / The Black and White Label
Fan Appeal: Teens and Young Adults Genre: Hip-Hop This is a pretty good hip-hop album from the former Souljahz members, and is a good alternative to some of the mainstream hip-hop groups. The best thing about Commanders of the Resistance is that it has a lot of different sounds compared to the generic hip-hop that all sounds the same. There’s enough of a familiar sound that it isn’t completely out there on it’s own, but it has a more unique sound that catches your ear. This is shown on songs like “Outside Your Window.” This song blends some guitar and orchestral tones to the average hip-hop beat to make it more interesting. It also has the message that we need to look at what is around us and try to make the world around us a better place by sharing God’s love. That’s another great thing about this album—they are not afraid to testify abut God. For example, the song “Deliverance,” starts with a prayer for protection and asks for deliverance from sin—very straightforward. Unfortunately, there are a couple songs on this album that aren’t of that high quality. One of these is “I Will Stay With You.” It’s a love song for the singer’s wife that could have been cool…but instead sounds really stupid with lyrics like “I feel like Tom Cruise… Cuz this mission’s impossible,” and other lame rhymes. Also, the song “Time,” is just like every other song that says things like “The time is always winding down,” and wants listeners to decide how to use our time. Nothing new or innovating there. Overall, this is an album that is worth a listen, but isn’t for everyone. MUSICBLOG RATING: B If members of your family like this CD, then you may want to try… -The Fault is History, Souljahz, Hip-Hop. Some fun music that brings the heat. --TN ### |
