WHERE WE COME FROM IT NEVER SNOWS

Olivia the Band / Syntax Records

Fan Appeal: Teens

Genre: Punk

This second album from Olivia The Band is a wonderful punk rock album that shows growth and a love for others and God.

I am amazed at how much this band has grown from their previous album in musicianship, song writing, and tone, both vocally and instrumentally. Where We Come From It Never Snows opens with the powerhouse rocker “808,” with a sound a bit reminiscent of “Lights and Sounds” by Yellowcard. This song is basically about how they are amazed at how far they have come from being on a beach in Hawaii, where they grew up, to being on the move all the time. The song “Letters in White Lines,” is one that contains the simple message that God is always there no matter what’s going on. The last song “So Much Going On,” is a beautiful acoustic song about how everyone needs help sometimes.

There are a couple spots on this album that don’t flow as well as they could. For instance, there are a few times when the break between songs is just a second too short. This means the transition time doesn’t work out and it’s awkward for a second or two. And every now and then a vocal line doesn’t quite work out like it should—but these are small complaints.

Overall, I highly recommend Where We Come From It Never Snows. Fan of punk will enjoy the music, and it clearly shares the love of God.
