FALL AND WINTER

Jon Foreman / Credential

Fan Appeal: All Ages

Genre: Acoustic/Folk

This is a wonderful set of EP’s that is very simplistic and peaceful.

Imagine you’re sitting by a campfire, listening to a lulling voice singing you to sleep under the nighttime sky. That’s the feeling you get from these two down-to-earth discs featuring Jon Foreman’s voice with its calming tone in every song.

The best song is the last song on the Winter disc, entitled, “In Love.” This song is essentially a love song from God to us as his people. It repeats over and over how His life and love and everything are what he gives to us. “Southbound Train” is a good song from the Fall disc that talks about going home and the joy found there. There’s a cool harmonica that sounds like a train whistle, and the beat sounds like the “chug, chug, chug” of a train at times.

The worst thing about this EP set is that it starts to sound the same after a while. There are also times when the music is a little bit too folksy and edges into being almost bluegrass, which isn’t good at all. This can be heard on “Lord, Save Me From Myself,” which features a banjo as the main instrument.

Overall, this is a great album that shows a side none of us expected from the Switchfoot frontman.

-Seven Swans, Sufjan Stevens, Folk. This brilliant folk music is very relaxing and appeals to young and old.
